Lavender and earl grey chia pudding. 🧚🏻‍♀️🌸Botanical with a slight caffeine kick! (I had one with just lavender fyi haha) What are you having for breakfast today?🌸 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸What I love about chia pudding, Is you can make the night before in these mini jars and grab them out of the fridge in the morning. Super easy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Anytime we have family in town, we make these as a breakfast dessert with some toppings on the side like fresh fruit or homemade granola. Or over a smoothie. Garnishing with fresh violets or any other edible flowers make a lovely presentation too! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #CookingWithFlowers ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Per jar 3/4-1 cup oat milk 2 tablespoons chia seeds A little maple syrup ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸For three servings- heat up 3 cups of oat milk with 1.5 tablespoons of lavender and 1-2 earl grey tea. Slowly bring to boil, and remove from heat and steep for 20 minutes. Strain and let cool. Then add chia seeds (2 tablespoons per cup of milk) and chill for four hours, stirring every hour. Pour over your favorite smoothie😘😘😘

How to feel fancy today! 🌸✨Put some edible flowers or herbs in your ice tray and add them to any drink! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Favorites to use are chamomile and borage, because they’re small and dainty, but I also love using little petals or sprigs of herbs. Flowering basil is pretty, as is little sage leaves. How to get clear ice with no cracks? Use filtered water, and even better, boil it twice to remove any air bubbles from the liquid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸The language of some herbs and flowers... so you know who to give what at your next gathering.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Borage - courage 🌸Calendula- joy 🌸Lavender - devotion 🌸Lemon Balm- sympathy 🌸Rose - love 🌸Yarrow - health 🌸Chamomile - humility ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What’s your favorite flower?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #cookingwithflowers

How do you use basil in cooking? How 🌱about desserts... or perhaps a strawberry basil tart with a sweet cookie crust? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌱Fun fact, I went to raw vegan school five years ago and learned you can literally make any dessert with maple syrup, dates, and cashews. It was SO much fun. This recipe was part of my final!🧚🏻‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌱Cookie crust: 2 cups flour 1 cup powdered sugar 2/3 cup coconut oil Pinch salt 🌱Mix all ingredients together. If too dry, add coconut oil until dough forms. 🌱Press crust into a tart pan and bake 10-15 minutes at 350 degrees ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌱Basil tart filling: 3/4 cups soaked cashews 3 T oat milk 6 T maple syrup Juice of lemon 5 T coconut oil 15 large fresh picked basil leaves ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌱Soak cashews overnight In a food processor blend all ingredients except coconut oil and basil. Melt coconut oil. Stream in coconut oil slowly to the rest of mixture.Roughly chop basil leaves, and toss into food processor. Blend until smooth. Pour the filling into the tart and refrigerate for an hour. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌱Garnish with strawberries and baby basil leaves. #cookingwithflowers

What’s your drink of choice in the morning? ☕️Is it coffee perhaps? Don’t remind me! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸I’ve spent the last few weeks detoxing from caffeine as a part of a sleep experiment, and playing more with herbal infusions, so I wanted to see the affect the plants were having on me, and coffee was disrupting the process! Sooooo.... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸How to wean yourself off caffeine and what helped! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Teecino- a non-caf herbal blend of chicory and it’s so sweet and resembles the sweet aroma of coffee. Make it in a French press. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸 @dandyblend - dandelion root and chicory root, but more like instant coffee, blending it with hot water. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Steamed oat milk and a little honey and ashwagandha and maca powder. This was just a treat! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸A ton of water. Wake up and drink 32 ounces right away. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Meditating and mindfullness, and generally changing your relationship with coffee, or at least trying to ask, do I want this or am I really just thirsty? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Anyway, this is just temporary, and the point is to not have to rely on it upon waking up. But this doesn’t stop me from baking with earl grey and matcha, I’m just giving those things away! For now... Happy Tuesday!♥️

Can you name all the foraged herbs in the photo?🧚🏻‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿I’ve been taking an online foraging class to continue my love of plants. Virtual foraging? Yes, well it’s more of a plant identification and botany course, but so much fun learning all the different types of leaf shapes and what not. It’s elderflower season, and I harvested these dainty flowers from a friend’s farm. The possibilities with elderflower are endless, but first. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿Some facts about elderflower: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧚🏻‍♀️Elderflower is a diaphoretic, meaning it induces sweating, especially helpful when you have a cold or flu ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿There is a lot of flower folklore surrounding elderflower. The “spirit of elder” was prominent in European folklore and almost all gardens were planted with at least one elder in it to ward off evil.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🧚🏻‍♀️Elderflower is rich in a flavonol called quercetin, that has anti-viral properties. I have been researching quercetin lately, and finding out some really interesting things! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿If you can’t find fresh elderflower, that’s ok, @mountainroseherbs sells it dried and it still has the same benefits! It’s lovely as a tea especially with peppermint added! Also love my new ceramics from @jeffersonstreetceramics !!🌿🌸

Sunday funday calls for some rose! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸I did not intend to be on social media this weekend but I’ve been having fun playing with sunlight and color and shadows and the #belightinspireddrinks challenge was too inspiring this week! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Usually I obsess over attempting to curate a planned out feed a week in advance, and try so hard to be organized, but let’s be honest, I am not digitally organized. Period. But my pantry is organized! 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸I want to try and share more of what I’m creatively playing with in the moment, and today it’s rose in vintage etched star cordial glasses. (I think I’m more obsessed with the glasses than anything else!) So I’m posting in real time (for once!) ha. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸I hope you give yourself some creative playtime with no expectations today!!!♥️🧚🏻‍♀️

Strawberry thyme shrub 🍓🌿Have you made a shrub yet? This may be my new coffee replacement😜 I tasted it this morning and the tanginess woke me up so fast. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿Remember the ig live with shrub making 101? I made this strawberry pineapple shrub and added some fresh thyme. I strained it today, and the thyme really does come through! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿Shrubs are flavored vinegars that can be used to sip on over ice, added to cocktails on a summer day, or simply add to vinaigrettes for your salads. The possibilities for recipes are endless and they are fun to experiment with! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿One suggestion - if you want to sip on them (they curb your appetite imho) use a really nice vinegar, not a generic apple cider vinegar. Red wine vinegar from @othermothervinegar is my fav! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #cookingwithflowers #belightinspireddrinks

Lilac sugar cookies for tea time! Is there ever enough dainty flowers and lovely quotes? 🌸Here’s one from reading this morning... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸”Open your heart, like the petals of a flower greeting the morning sun, bask in the warmth of a new beginning, and learn to love again. Break free of your mind today, forget what happened yesterday, it has forgotten you. Having an open heart, you remain expansive, free, and accepting.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Today is a fresh start and new beginning. What’s one thing that keeps you staying present? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Lilac sugar cookies making their way to my blog tomorrow. (They’re vegan too weeee!)Link in my bio🧚🏻‍♀️🥰

Elderflower cordial and how to make it. What’s your favorite botanical addition to a drink? 🌸🤗 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸The flavor that reminds me most of a summer in the UK is elderflower. The clumps of white flowers that fairies are known to dance between. 🧚🏻‍♀️ The folklore around elderflower is like reading a children’s book. It’s so whimsical and dreamy. I’m pretty sure you can’t go into any pub in the English countryside with out them having an elderflower cordial or plenty of elderflower gins on their shelf. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸There are plenty of people that sell elderflower cordials and flavorings, which I highly recommend adding to desserts and drinks, but I found a tree outside of Austin that I visit every May! When it blooms for the short time it does, I harvested enough flower heads to make this fragrant tasting cordial. (On blog later today!) The flowers are so gorgeous to garnish your drinks with! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸For this drink, I made a standard Aperol spritz (the most refreshing summer cocktail in the world!), which is just Prosecco, Aperol, and club soda, but I added a little less Aperol and a little more elderflower cordial and garnished it with lemon and elderflowers. It’s a sweet summery delight, and every bartender in England knows how to whip it up! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸For the #monthlytechniquecollab hosted by @mgracebakeshop and @bonbonbaked of @foodcapturecollective- I shot this in direct sunlight. Also check out #belightinspireddrinks by @bealubas and @twolovesstudio for their drink challenge this week, and @luciebeck fro the #onlyonedrink challenge! So much funnnn!

What is your favorite pairing with a cup of tea? How about some elderflower cake 🤗 Sometimes less is more, but in this case, I don’t hold back on the garnishes and femininity of this scene! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸For Mother’s Day, here are a few ideas for an impromptu tea time with Mom! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Use elegant table pieces like this one from @vagabondhouse -I just ordered their monogram cake stand and it couldn’t be more beautiful! It has a little B on it, and is the perfect size for a standard bundt cake. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Make your favorite simple cake, but add a floral flavoring, like elderflower! Garnish it with a flower from the garden. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Weave some linen through out the table and drape off the edges. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Make an herbal tea blend with herbs or flowers that symbolize love! Perhaps rose which symbolizes love and affection or fennel fronds which represents trust! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸Add any foliage or ivy from your yard and place around the cake stand and in between the linen. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸How will you be celebrating mom this weekend?🌸

What are you drinking this weekend? I can’t get over this new gin that changes color with the addition of citrus! It’s pure magic, and refreshing to sip on in the afternoon! Don’t mind if I do! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸This botanical cocktail is called... 🌸Lady Syringa! 🌸 According to Greek mythology, Pan, the god of the forest, falls in love with a nymph named Syringa (lilac’s botanical name) and chases her around the forest, until she escapes him and turns herself into the most aromatic flower- lilac.♥️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸 @empress1908gin is mystical with its illuminating purple color, due to the butterfly pea powder, but also has notes of juniper, coriander, rose, and ginger! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌸On a lilac streak this week, I made some lilac syrup to add some sweetness, and a squeeze of lemon, over crushed ice. Garnish with fresh lilac flower to inhale its sweetness before the first sip. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1 ounce #empressgin Squeeze of one lemon 1 ounce lilac syrup Top off with sparkling water Garnish with fresh lilac I’ll be making it again tomorrow afternoon on my stories if you want to follow along!! #ad #cookingwithflowers

Nettle Cheddar Biscuits for the win! They are almost as good as Red Lobster's...hehe. Have you had theirs?😍 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿These are plant based, fluffy, and reminiscent of a good ol' southern style biscuit. Southern style biscuits just have a little bit more butter added in. I used @oatly combiend with lemon juice as a buttermilk substitute and it works great! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿Nettle is that herb I’m always using to make infusions. It’s nutritive, high in iron, magnesium, and vitamins A, B, and C. Nettle can be ordered dried online or at some grocery stores. Natural Grocer has it here! I have yet to find fresh here in Austin! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿Tag me and let me know if you make these! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿6 T @earthbalance butter 2 cups flour 5 tablespoon dried nettle 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 2/3 cup oat milk 1 T. Lemon (half a lemon) 1/2 cup shredded @daiyafoods cheddar cheese ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌿425 degrees- 10 minutes Full recipe on blog!
